Class meets February 11 & 18, 2026 from 12:30 - 3:30 pm.

Join Marietta to make this generously-sized, sturdy travel bag!  The special stays that give this bag its signature shape open wide to allow unhindered access to everything inside, and a zipper keeps everything secure. It features handy pockets inside and out. Finished size is 18" wide, 12" deep, and 14" tall. Intermediate level.

Be sure to complete the homework at the bottom of this page before the first day of class.

In an effort to keep classes affordable, we ask that you purchase all supplies and materials from Marietta's Quilt & Sew.  Before purchasing materials, check to make sure that the class minimum of 3 students has been met. Students are eligible for a 10% discount on supplies purchased for class; online customers should make a note at checkout listing name of class and which items apply to have the discount applied manually.

By signing up for a class, you agree to in-class photography, which we use on our social media to promote the MQS class experience to others.

Supplies needed:

Poppins Bag pattern (includes metal stays)

Please buy 1 1/4 yards of each fabric for the outside, lining, and accent fabrics.  Pattern says less, but the extra is helpful.

Other materials listed on pattern

Sewing machine.  Don't forget power cord, pedal, and extra bobbins.

1/4" clear plastic plumbing tubing (available inexpensively from a hardware store...look for "icemaker tubing")

Double sided basting tape

Chaco Liner pen

Basic sewing supplies, Wonder clips, straight pins, ruler, scissors, etc.

Small iron and pressing mat

Homework:

Cut foam and fabric for the front and the lining.

Do steps 1 and 2, to prepare the front and back of the bag by quilting them and have them ready to finish the front and back when you get to class.

If you want pockets, get them prepared to put on after you sew the front and back. The pockets will be the first thing we need to put on in class. If you are not prepared ahead of time, you will not finish in class. The goal is to finish the bag completely by the end of the second class.

If you have any questions about the homework please call the store at 864-962-5353.
