Class Beginning Quilting 9 Patch and Snowball **Oct**

Beginners Quilting class - 9 Patches and Snowballs 

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Our very popular Beginning Quilting class has been expanded to 2 days!  It’s the same project but with more information and time to finish your 9-patch blocks between classes.

The first day we will cover using and maintaining your machine, ¼” seam allowances, cutting strips, pressing, chain piecing, nesting seams, and making the 9-patch block.

The second day we will learn to cut squares using the Stripology ruler, add folded corners, make snowball blocks, assemble your quilt and add borders.



Techniques taught:
  •  Multiple techniques for cutting strips and squares
  •  Chain piecing
  •  Nesting seams
  •  Pressing seams
  •  Folded corner piecing
  •  Measuring for and adding borders

Supplies:

 

  •          Sewing machine in good working order. Don’t forget your power cord and foot pedal
  •          Sewing machine needles size 80/12 or 90/14. Bring extra needles.
  •          Straight pins
  •          Fabric clips
  •          50 wt thread in a neutral color such as gray or beige
  •          Rotary cutter with a new blade
  •          Long acrylic ruler 6.5” X 24”
  •          Square acrylic ruler 12.5” or larger (Creative Grid CRG-12 or Quilters Select 12-1/2” sq.)
  •          Extra bobbins (wind ahead of time)
  •          Cutting mat (at least 18” X 24”)
  •          1/4” foot with guide or other way to maintain a 1/4” seam
  •          Seam ripper
  •          Good fabric scissors
  •          Thread snips
  •          Marking pencil or chalk marker
  •          Pen and notepad for making notes

Instructor Bio: Teresa Ess began quilting in 1998, starting with piecing and quilting by hand. She still enjoys hand work but now sews most of her quilts by machine. Her favorite quilts combine interesting color combinations and multiple techniques. She has completed over 100 quilts from mug rug to king size.
